Custom Quoridor Game

Play Quoridor with your own rules: choose the board size, the number of walls, borrowed moves and the time per move.

Set up your game

Choose the rules, then play on one device or invite a friend. The defaults are classic Quoridor.

How do you want to play?
Pawns start in the middle of opposite edges. A bigger board makes a longer race.
From 0 to 30. Classic Quoridor gives each player 10.
When the time runs out, the game moves the pawn one step along its shortest route. With a clock on, each player also has 5 minutes in total.
In a two-player game, type both names to keep score of who wins between you. The score stays on this device.

How a Custom Game Works

A custom game is played like classic Quoridor: two pawns start in the middle of opposite edges, and the first to reach the far edge wins. Before you start, you and your friend decide how the game is set up. Player 1 moves first.

  1. Board size. Play on a 5 × 5, 7 × 7, 9 × 9, 11 × 11 or 13 × 13 board. A small board is a quick skirmish. A large one leaves room for long detours.
  2. Walls per player. Give each player anywhere from 0 to 30 walls. With none, the game is a pure race. With many, it turns into a maze fight. A wall is two squares long, and walls cannot overlap or cross each other.
  3. Keep a path open. Whatever the setup, you may not place a wall that leaves either pawn with no route to its goal.
  4. Borrowed moves. If you turn this on, a pawn standing right next to the other pawn, with no wall between them, may also move to any square the other pawn could move to from where it stands.
  5. Time per move. Play with no clock, or choose 15 seconds, 32 seconds, 1 minute or 2 minutes. When the clock runs out, the game moves your pawn one step along its shortest route. With a clock on, each player also has 5 minutes for the whole game.

Ideas to Try

Try a 5 × 5 board with 3 walls each for a game that is over in minutes, or a 13 × 13 board with 20 walls each for a long battle of detours. Both players always get the same number of walls. When you play again, your settings stay in place.

You can play it on one device, or invite a friend to a private room that keeps your settings: your friend sees them before joining.
